John Rutledge Howard born March 8,1938 in Kansas City Mo, was reunited in spirit June 25,2024, after a lengthy final journey, he returned peacefully surrounded by his family in Northwoods (West Chicago). John was preceded by his wife Mamie Lynne (Jones), parents John Carol Howard and Gertrude Irene (Schrank), and his older sister Jeri Irene (Nelson). John's Children, John Gentry and Kelly Lynne and his younger sister Carol, his grandchildren Molly, Grant (Howard), Dylan & Rowan (Howard-Myers) mourn his passing as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was raised in the Sauganash neighborhood of Chicago, attending Admundson high school, then attending Pratt Institute, NY where he met his partner Mamie Lynne, while acquiring a degree in Industrial Design. Joining ROTC at Pratt, he then did a tour of VietNam from 1961-1963 with the Signal Corp, attaining the rank of Captain. While in Vietnam, he injured his spine when a load of telephone poles his crew were installing
